Nemours Children’s Health is seeking a Chair to lead our Department of Surgery at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware, in Wilmington.
The Chair of Surgery at Nemours Children’s Health in Wilmington, Delaware will lead over 35 surgeons across 9 surgical divisions. Reporting to the Surgeon-in-Chief, the Chair will manage operational, academic, and educational initiatives across the Department, promoting a “one-team” culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and personal excellence. The Chair of Surgery will work alongside the Chair of Orthopedics and the Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine in growing the regional, national and international footprint for Nemours surgical services both in clinical programming and in academic pre-eminence. Given the unique multi-state network of Nemours Children’s Health, the Chair will also work collaboratively with the other surgical leaders across the organization to facilitate “systemness” in the development and monitoring of enterprise-wide surgical care.
In the Delaware Valley, The Chair will empower Division Chief leaders and individual faculty to establish the highest standards in quality of patient care and patient safety, educational outcomes, research impact, and financial stewardship, through an inclusive and equitable style of leadership. The Chair will be responsible for promoting the academic growth of established divisions as well as recruitment, retention, and professional development of an excellent, diverse faculty. The Chair will foster opportunities to expand both clinical programming and research portfolios across divisions, with a focus on interdisciplinary and collaborative team-based scholarship. The Chair will champion the work of the Department by promoting partnerships across the Nemours system, The Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University and with community partners.
The Chair must also be a competent and prudent steward of the Department, guiding it through what will almost certainly be uncharted territories of change for the organization. This includes an aggressive mission for building Quality and Safety infrastructure within the Department, incorporating value-based strategies aligned with the Nemours vision for creating the healthiest generation of children, and an unwavering commitment to clinical excellence, academic innovation, and collegiality.
