The Team
The Data Governance and Operations team is one of the five verticals within the newly established Chief Data Office (CDO), part of T. Rowe Price’s Chief Operating Office (COO). The team is responsible for establishing and leading a firm-wide data governance framework across all aspects of T. Rowe Price’s data operations and infrastructure. As a key pillar of the firm’s risk management framework, the team is on the front lines of protecting the franchise, internal and regulatory compliance and driving operational excellence. This role is part of the Data Governance & Management team that sits under Data Governance & Operations.
The Role
The Director, Data Governance – Distribution reports to the Head of Data Governance & Operations. As a Data Governance Director, you will deploy and enforce a firmwide data governance framework and operating model (e.g., policies, standards) and data practices technically and functionally across one of the following areas: Investments, Investment Operations, Distribution or Corporate & Risk.
The role will drive engagement and accountability across business data owners and stewards including chairing area-specific (e.g., Investments) Data Governance Councils. In deploying a data governance framework and operating model, you will define, govern and drive strategy and capabilities for data domains (Single Sources of Truth – SSOTs); maintain firmwide data catalogue and meta data, onboard new datasets and ensure ongoing updates to existing data sets.
From a risk management perspective, you will be accountable for implementing data quality standards and a robust measurement framework. In partnership with colleagues from Risk and InfoSec, you will also prevent data misuse and loss through data classification and access controls.
Your role may also include direct reports in which case you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the team, coaching, development and performance management.

The role is critical to the successful implementation and sustainability of a modern data governance framework and operating model. Working across the area you support; you will establish strong partnerships with leaders and users of data within the business using your communication and influencing skills to drive behavioural change and best-practice. As the CDO is a new business function for T. Rowe Price, you will have the opportunity to build and shape the Data Governance & Management team and how it operates. Your work will be highly visible in driving important change and governance initiatives.
Key Accountabilities
Play a leading role in the creation of the Data Governance and Management team, framework and operating model.
Provide strategic and hands-on data governance support to the business area you cover.
Draft policies, standards, data processes from a functional and technical perspective aligned to the firm’s data governance principles.
Enforce adherence to data governance standards, policies and processes through a combination of monitoring and active engagement with business partners.
Chair and attend meetings, councils and other data governance forums.
Build a community and partnership between Data Governance & Management and business data owners and stewards. Develop a deep understanding of the business you are supporting.
Maintain a firmwide data catalog with primary responsibility for your business area.
Implement data quality standards and measurement frameworks.
Evangelize critical initiatives and adoption of new ways of working through a range of different channels and engagement approaches.
Establish mechanisms to ensure adoption and measure the impact of governance and standards on different business outcomes via improved scaling, speed to market, cost reductions and improvements in overall quality of solutions.
Provide senior management with a clear lens on the progress and performance of critical initiatives.
Prevent data misuse and loss by taking a proactive approach to data classification and access controls.
Collaborate with Risk and Technology teams to ensure consistency and standardization in frameworks, processes and tools.
Create and maintain appropriate program management and project artifacts working within a scaled Agile framework
Experience & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
10+ years of total relevant work experience ideally in a program / project leadership role with demonstrated experience of managing a portfolio of projects
A thorough understanding of data governance principles, frameworks and methodologies, and experience applying them in the real world all stages of the data lifecycle.
Execution excellence and a track record of delivering long term business value
Strong risk management awareness and understanding
A sound understanding of financial markets
Proven track record of attracting, hiring and retaining talent
Ability to think and plan strategically, working in ambiguous environments
Strong analytical skills and the ability to aggregate and simplify complex, disparate information

Preferred Requirements
Master’s degree or MBA
In-depth understanding of asset management industry
Experience leading and working in Agile environments, ideally at scale but with the ability to flex as needed e.g., waterfall
Lean Six Sigma or related skills and experience
Some, but not necessarily all of the following:
Data architecture, information management, conceptual data modelling, and ontologies.
Data condition/quality assessment and remediation.
Data warehousing and data operations.
Data valuation and working with data as an asset.
Experience developing and managing data sharing agreements.
Data ethics and privacy.
Cybersecurity risk assessment for data systems and processes, and knowledge of relevant standards and regulations such as ISO27001, 27002, NIST, NIS-D.
Metadata, reference data and master data management.
Change management, using established frameworks
FINRA Requirements
FINRA licenses are not required and will not be supported for this role.
Work Flexibility
This role is eligible for remote work up to two days a week.
