OVERVIEW:
The Director, Independent Pharmacy Affairs will provide direction and decision-making to the company, and collaborate with leaders and key stakeholders to understand strategic business initiatives and develop engagement solutions that are specifically focused on the business models of independent pharmacies.
This leader will be a forward thinking advisor who possesses extensive knowledge and is well-versed in emerging Independent Pharmacy trends. Recognized thought leader by both internal and external communities.
This role is highly cross-functional, requiring influential partnership with senior level business leaders across the enterprise and core support functions, such as Provider Contracting Strategy, Clinical, Distribution, Technology, Legal, Governmental Affairs, etc. as the strategy is built and executed. The strategy has the potential to impact and touch every line of business across Express Scripts. This role will be responsible for helping realize and articulate new value creation from the strategies developed and deployed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
– Establish the Office of Independent Pharmacy Enablement, which will drive Independent Pharmacy Engagement for the enterprise.
– Establish and strategically lead an external Independent Pharmacy Advisory Committee (IPAC), comprised of independent pharmacy owners from representing different regions and businesses.
– Oversees program development, independent pharmacist focused problem resolution and influences/leads process improvement.
– Owns Strategic Initiatives to execute and enable the strategy set by business segment management and integrates policy across divisions.
– Works to activate PBM product, provider relations and clinical strategy with the independent pharmacy community.
– Builds and maintains strong external relationships and provides advice and support specific to independent pharmacy partnerships.
– Liaison between the Express Scripts PBM and Independent and Community Pharmacies, and Independent Pharmacy Trade Associations.
– Meet with key external stakeholders on proposed legislation (state and federal).
– Possesses significant freedom to act in the medium term and contributes to strategic decisions.
– Will serve as a subject matter consultative resource on external market trends and identifying solutions to help meet needs.
– Leads construction of an optimal management process to ensure Strategy Enablement.
– Drives External Business Development initiatives across key matrix team.
– Presents new/and or complex and challenging business issues to executive management.
– Guides multiple departments within a functional area or multiple departments across several functional areas.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
– At least 5 years working for an Independent Pharmacy; Requires PharmD degree.
– Relevant experience in strategic planning and/or strategy enablement.
– Deep understanding of the provider/health system landscape and market, including the top pain points and issues that independent pharmacy providers face, their multiple interfaces with insurers and vendors, and ideally established relationships with key matrixed partners in the market.
– Ability to partner cross-functionally and influence to gain alignment from key stakeholders.
– Strong relationship building skills and the ability to interface at the exec level both internally and externally.
– Executive presence and exceptional communications skills.
– Recognized thought leader by both internal and external communities, with existing, relevant relationships.
– Travel up to 40%.
