Financial Analyst I

Seaspan Seeking Financial Analyst I for immediate hire. Accepting applications from all groups. They deliver financial planning and analysis through financial modelling, scenario analysis, budgeting, forecasting and other analytics. This role collaborates with teams across operating divisions to consolidate and analyze results; and supports standardization and performance across the organization.

Reporting to the Finance Manager of Operations for Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards, the Financial Analyst I play assists with various financial activities and analysis. The role collects, analyzes, and interprets financial data to provide insights and recommendations to management for informed decision-making. This role will interact regularly with senior finance professional individuals and management in Engineering and other groups.

Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What you’ll do

• Assists in the preparation of financial reports, labour report and finance statements by collecting the data and providing insightful information and metrics.
• Assists with annual budgeting process and quarterly forecasts for both operational overhead as well as chargeable project hours by collecting previous years actuals and providing recommendations.
• Runs weekly labour reports and providing analytical commentary.
• Conducts variance analysis against budget and forecast to identify key drivers of financial performance and to assess budgetary compliance.
• Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure all aspects of a project or initiative are considered.
• Working closely with teams from different departments such as operations, Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, and others, to use their expertise and insights to inform financial decisions and strategies.
• Assists in the development and report of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) by collecting current actuals and calculating the metrics.
• Performs additional ad hoc analyses and other duties as assigned.

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or Finance.
• Minimum of 2 years of accounting and financial analysis experience.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling techniques.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to prepare a variety of financial statements, reports and analysis.
• Strong understanding of accounting concepts.
• Strong analytical skills.

• Intermediate computer skills, advanced Excel skills.
• Strong communication skills. Ability to communicate (read and write) effectively in a business environment.

• Knowledge and experience in Canadian ASPE GAAP and related financial reporting requirements.
• Detail-oriented with analytical skills.
• Knowledge of month-end close processes.
• Knowledge in ERP systems (JDE or equivalent) and BI tools (SAP BI, Power BI or equivalent).
• Proficient in MS-Office (Excel /Word/Outlook/PowerPoint).
• Customer service orientation, self-starter and initiative driven.

The estimated salary for this position is $$67,000 – $82,500. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
