Seaspan Seeking Intern, Systems Planning for immediate hire. Accepting applications from all groups. Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS-related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.

The Intern, Systems Planning will support the production planning teams during the ship construction and systems commissioning process. It is expected that the intern will be responsible for developing and managing detailed plan creation to help sequence work in support of turning on systems. The role will be responsible for liaising with engineering and production supervision teams to ensure the plans are up to date and in line with the overall business milestones. The Intern, Systems Planning will report to the Electrical Planning Supervisor in Production Support.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at our Operations Center at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

What you’ll do

• Assist the team in maintenance of the electrical planning databases and dashboard.
• Coordinates trade input into work packages and sequencing to reflect preferred production methods and processes.
• Schedules production work packages within windows defined by the Program office (milestone, key event and zone schedules) to ensure Production and Program are aligned and in sync.
• Input of work package schedules and budgets into VSY’s MRP system to support the collection of data for the cost accounts.

What you’ll bring

• Enrollment in an Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or other related Engineering degree program.
• Excellent attitude and ability to work within a team environment but also independently.
• Strong organizational skills including the ability to maintain organization in a changing environment and under pressure.
• Good judgement, reasoning, and critical thinking skills as well as tact and diplomacy.
• Good time management skills.
• Good oral and written communication and presentation skills.
• Good attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
• High PC proficiency required. Excellent knowledge of MS Excel.
• Committed to a high standard of safety and able to comply with all Seaspan safety policies and rules.

Seaspan’s Internships are 4 months in duration. We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.
