JOB PURPOSE

This position supports Thompson’s mission by inspecting, installing, repairing and replacing pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures to maintain the heating, water, gas, compressed air and drainage systems of the buildings on the Howard University campus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ability to work overnight hours on Friday and Saturday; 10:00pm to 7:00am
Supports general facilities activities in areas of plumbing and other areas as required
Completes all job duties under the direction and supervision of higher-level staff
Installs, repairs, and replaces building plumbing equipment
Performs preventative and corrective maintenance activities
Conducts routine inspections of facilities and equipment and maintains logbook of documented issues
Provides excellent customer service to the client, vendors, and contractors
Works effectively with outside vendors and contractors
Communicates effectively and professionally both verbally as well as in writing.
Cooperate with other technicians in completing assigned job duties
Work from drawings, email, electronic systems and/or verbal instructions using a variety of hand and power tools
Safely operate Thompson Facilities Services company vehicles
Any other duties needed to do the right thing, help fulfill our mission, support our client, while consistent with policy and the collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position is physically demanding. Ability to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, lift, pull, push, climb ladders, twist, and walk for a minimum of three hours on the campus terrain. Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. using safe lifting techniques.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position operates on a university campus with exposure to the waste, hazardous materials, wide-ranging outdoor weather conditions, stairs, sidewalks, etc. Work is performed at night and inside various campus buildings where lighting and ventilation may be inadequate. Work is also performed on campus grounds and parking lots.
