Summary:
Manages and coordinates the daily operations of the Health Information Management staff as it pertains to record management, record completion, and release of information.
The position is responsible for coordinating the accurate, efficient, and prompt performance of multiple HIM department operations and ensures compliance with Joint Commission and regulatory agency requirements.
Span of Control: Manages approximately 30 staff members consisting of Supervisors, Coordinators, and Health Information Associates.

Health Care and HIT Expertise: Comprehensive understanding of operational health care delivery systems and the current health care landscape. Skills and experience with developing competitive business strategies for health care. Skills and experience with the operational aspects of health care technology deployment. Familiarity and comfort with technology-based operational improvement. Health care management or consulting experience preferred.
Analytics and Strategy: Expertise in developing and executing data-driven approaches to enhancing business decision-making and improving operational performance (preferably in healthcare). Advanced knowledge of business intelligence best practices, familiarity with fact-based management tools and techniques to drive strategies, and continuous improvement culture.
Communications: Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Ability to take abstract, complex, and/or technical information and break it down for a variety of audiences in a way that is meaningful for them.
Functional Oversight: Issue identification, gap analysis, ability to prioritize business needs, and execute solutions.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information or equivalent experience.
Three to five (3-5) years’ supervisory experience. Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:
Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
Thorough knowledge of Health Information Management functions including, transcription services, the release of information regulations, privacy laws, standards, and processes.
Demonstrates skill and efficiency with respect to training and education tools and development.
Ability to manage project assignments from both a task and resource perspective • Ability to aggregate data and create documents to communicate to stakeholders in a dashboard format to drive performance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification through the American Health Information Management Association with at least 5 years of job-related experience.
