Provider Communications Editorial Manager

Role summary

This position is responsible to manage editorial projects and resources for various communication initiatives for providers and appropriate Cigna employees. This may include developing provider focused communications and communication plans that support Cigna’s strategic imperatives and value propositions. This may also include communication development for other audience affected by Provider Solutions & Operations (PS&O) initiatives, including customers and clients. Position also supports resolving communication challenges and delivery limitations, and providing viable recommendations that optimize the provider experience in a cost-effective way.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end Provider Communication strategy oversight for team editorial and copywriter activities.
• Manage team of copywriters, including people strategy – successful execution of all attraction, development, motivation and retention efforts.
• Own and manage provider communication writing tools (e.g., text standards and writing guides).
• Consult with communications plan management team members as needed to ensure communication development objectives are met.
• Create, edit and/or review content for internal and external communications.
• Participates on assigned business projects as a communication subject matter expert with a goal to create an optimal communication experience for health care professionals.
• Develop and manage communication plans for initiatives affecting health care professionals.
• Lead discussions, brainstorming sessions, and develop creative strategy.
• Attend project meetings as a representative of Provider Communications.
• Set expectations for, closely monitor, and address communications dependencies.
• Raise concerns about the provider experience and communications risks, barriers, and unmet dependencies.
• Ensure all information has been received to initiate timely, accurate, quality communication development.
• Ensures that materials and plans conform to and meet different national and state regulatory requirements.
• Draft or package key messages for internal and external communications (to share with team copywriters).
• Manage communication review process for documents requiring review, securing final sign-off from subject matter experts, project owners, Corporate Communications, Marketing, Legal, and others as needed.
• Distribute final materials for mailing, web posting, tracker management, etc.
• Assist in the development and implementation of methods to track effectiveness of implemented communication projects.
• Assist in the development of provider communications department standard operating procedures.
• Assist in the development of policies and processes with key business partners for health care professional communications, and communicates this information to internal constituents.
• Understand competitive landscape to stay current on trends and other information pertinent to the role.
• Participate in budget and expense management activities through effective planning, monitoring and forecasting.
• Identify opportunities for communications improvements and cost savings, using influencing and negotiating skills to get ideas implemented. 
• Develop and maintains productive collaborative partnerships with key matrix partners.
• Consistently demonstrate core disciplines: quality, attention to detail, strategy, people management.
• Perform other duties as assigned or identified.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or related discipline or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years of experience in health care communications or a related field.
• Broad business knowledge of the health care services industry.
• Previous experience managing people and cross-functional projects.
• Excellent communication, writing, editing and proofreading skills.
• Experience with writing customer-facing (providers, members, clients) materials, including online content.

Preferred Requirements

• Strong project management, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to foster and manage working relationships within a matrix.
• Ability to identify strategic needs, with little or no direction, resource key projects, and translate strategies into actions.
• Understanding of various communications methods and best uses (e.g., digital, print, web, etc.)
• Experience developing and adhering to text standards and style guides.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines.
• Strong business acumen.
• Strong peer and senior leader relationship management skills to foster collaboration, value others’ perspectives, negotiate, influence, and gain support and buy-in.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 85,700 – 142,900 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
