Job Description
DEFINITION
Under immediate to general supervision, the Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) provides peer support services; serves as an advocate; provides information and peer support for consumers in emergency, outpatient or inpatient settings. The RSS performs a wide range of tasks to assist consumers in regaining control of their lives and recovery processes. The RSS will possess the skills to maintain a high level of professionalism, ethics, and interactions with all ODMHSAS stakeholders.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the English language in order to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability is required to record observations and activities, to follow oral and written directions, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
This position provides care to a vulnerable population which requires employees to adhere to all applicable laws, rules and regulations, including but not limited to consumer rights regulations, confidentiality laws, and accreditation requirements associated with this position and field. As such, incumbents should be proactive, detail-oriented, and diligent with protecting consumer information, and possess the ability to understand all laws and regulations regarding consumer rights.
Incumbent must demonstrate honesty and integrity in their actions and communications regarding issues impacting the organization. Incumbents must demonstrate a commitment to serving the citizens of Oklahoma, including, but not limited to demonstrating compassion in their care of ODMHSAS consumers, focus on achieving positive treatment outcomes, responsible fiscal management, and support for the ODMHSAS mission to serve individuals and families impacted by mental illness and addiction.

LEVEL DESCRIPTOR
The Recovery Support Specialist has four levels that are distinguished based on the level of skill required, responsibility and complexity of specific assignments, and the responsibility for providing leadership to others.
WORKING TITLE / EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
RECOVERY SUPPORT SPECIALIST
Under close supervision, employees perform routine entry level work, and receive training in providing care or services to the people served. In this role, incumbents will primarily perform peer services with other Recovery Support Specialists and direct care staff.
Requires: High School Diploma or GED
Demonstrated participation in advocacy and/or personal knowledge in recovery.
Has the ability to become a Certified Recovery Support Specialist. Criteria to become a Certified Recovery Support Specialist is available at http://ok.gov/odmhsas
CERTIFIED PEER RECOVERY SUPPORT SPECIALIST
At this level, employees are assigned professional responsibilities for the maintenance of a casework with moderate supervision.
Requires: High School Diploma or GED and is a current Certified Recovery Support Specialist.
Demonstrated participation in advocacy and/or personal knowledge in recovery.
SENIOR CERTIFIED PEER RECOVERY SUPPORT SPECIALIST
At this level, employees will provide casework services at all levels of difficulty and complexity with moderate supervision. May provide guidance, in-house training on peer services, wellness, and recovery to other RSS staff.
Requires: High School Diploma or GED with 2 years of PRSS experience and is a current Certified Recovery Support Specialist.
Demonstrated participation in advocacy and/or personal knowledge in recovery.
LEAD CERTIFIED PEER RECOVERY SUPPORT SPECIALIST
At this level, employees will provide casework services at all levels of difficulty and complexity and are designated as lead workers, acting as mentors to other RSS by providing consultation, advising and in-house training on peer services, wellness, and recovery. May supervise volunteers.
Requires: High School Diploma or GED with 4 years of PRSS experience and is a current Certified Recovery Support Specialist.
Demonstrated participation in advocacy and/or personal knowledge in recovery.
