The primary role of the PACU Registered Nurse is to implement the patient care delivery model for the patient and their family. Additionally the registered nurse is responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, providing and evaluating, the care provided to patients in the post anesthetic phase of their recovery from a surgery/procedure with anesthesia.
Schedule is 20 hours per week, part-time.
Essential Functions:
Post anesthesia care nurses are required to meet the following competencies:
Management of airway and ventilator function;
Monitoring of cardiac function, arrhythmia recognition, and treatment of life-threatening emergencies;
Management of the patient during altered states of consciousness;
Management of monitoring and respiratory equipment;
Management of fluid lines, tubes, drains, and catheters;
Administration of drugs and identification of drug-related problems;
Recognition of the actions and interactions of anesthetic techniques.
Documentation of the nursing portion of the patient plan of care, in accordance with the facility’s policies and procedures; clinical notes; and record of medications administered. After each drug administration, the following shall be documented by the nurse who administered the drug: name and strength of the drug, date and time of administration, dosage administered, method of administration, and signature of the nurse who administered the drug.
All registered professional nurses in the postanesthesia care unit shall maintain current training in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
REQUIREMENTS:
Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of employment
Registered Nurse license Pennsylvania to start and Delaware within 90 days of employment
Current BLS, PALS, ACLS through American Heart Association
BSN required
Current Pediatric Critical care experience (ED, PICU, PACU)
