Senior Operations Manager – Haisea Marine

Seaspan Seeking Senior Operations Manager – Haisea Marine for immediate hire. Accepting applications from all groups. The Manager, Vessel Operations is a central leadership role responsible for the daily management of all Haisea marine assets, including the vessels, maintenance/office facility and tug berth, located in Kitimat, British Columbia. This position requires one to be available for emergencies and operational related concerns 24 hours/day 7 days per week when the circumstances permit. With responsibilities for hiring and scheduling crew, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance and budget preparation, this role focuses on efficient operations and providing on-time tug services for our client. This position splits time equally between shore based and shipboard activities and works closely with Masters and their crews and officer personnel to advance and improve both working relationships and company policies.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at Kitimat, B.C.

What you’ll do

• Manages operation of vessels, crew and shorereside personnel
• Reviews and authorizes purchase requests and manages annual budget. Develops inventory control procedures that protect company assets from theft, misuse or abuse.
• Collaborates on the development, implementation and maintenance of the marine fleet operational policy. Ensures all vessels are prepared for flag state, class and client inspections.
• Ensures continuous development of employees through effective leadership, individual development planning and by conducting regular performance assessments.
• Ensures workplace safety by implementing and monitoring the Safety Management System for all vessels, maintenance facility a site areas under company primacy.
• Lead safety meetings when required and conduct onboard visits and audits, serving as the Designated Person Ashore (DPA)
• Conducts post-incident investigation to determine root causes of the incident. Provides recommendations and develops corrective actions to prevent future incident occurrence.
• Oversees the operations contingency plan and acts as the Incident Commander during emergency and salvage response situations, which includes implementation of the Incident Commander System.
• Deliver regular internal and external reports as required, hold regular meetings and present summary of progress of key program deliverables to company, partners and clients’ representatives.
• Provides support for collective agreements negotiations and administration.
• Advises on planning of maintenance, repair and building of marine structures and related systems to ensure operational efficiency and reducing maintenance cost.
• Keeps up to date with trends and legislative changes that may have an impact on Haisea operations.
• Provide representation for company interactions with the client, partners, local first nations, community leaders, and stakeholders.
• Effectively manages operational risk and ensure risk management is embedded in all areas of operational activity.
• Ensure all legal, regulatory and compliance obligations (both internal and external) are met or exceeded.
• Implement a culture of continuous improvement practices in all aspects of the operation

What you’ll bring

• Master or 1 st Class Motor Certificate
• Post-secondary Diploma or Degree in nautical science, marine engineering or technology is considered an asset.
• Minimum 10 years of vessel operations and crew management experience including 5 years in progressively senior positions (marine and transportation industry preferred), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of operating in a union environment and previous experience with local collective bargaining agreements.
• Previous experience in the oil and gas industry is considered an asset.
• Must be flexible and willing to work outside of business hours when required.
• Comply with Haisea and their clients drug-free and harassment-free work environment policies and with all other site and vessel safety policies and procedures.
• Be willing to complete Pre-Site Access testing for alcohol and specific drugs as well as a background check
• Eligible to work in Canada
• Live in the District of Stikine (Kitimat/Terrace) or be willing to permanently relocate.
• Previous experience in fleet management, marine/technical operations, planned maintenance and logistics.
• Knowledge of harbour and escort tug operations, liaising with large vessels, pilotage procedures and oil and gas terminal operations.
• Knowledge of LNG Canada site specific operational procedures, expectations and ways of working considered an asset.
• Extensive understanding of maritime regulatory bodies and relevant regulatory frameworks pertaining to the operation
• Able to prioritize, organize and manage multiple tasks in a busy, and fast paced environment
• Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills creating a clear sense of direction and priorities and fostering a healthy team environment.

• Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office and other company required reporting platforms and ship preventative maintenance systems)

The estimated salary for this position is $148,000 – $181,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
