T. Rowe Price is seeking a Software Engineering Director who has the passion, vision and technical acumen to provide engineering leadership in our Global Investment Operations group. You will be supporting GIO to achieve their business objectives through technical enablement.  There will be an initial focus leading the execution of migrating legacy technology outside of our ecosystem to vendors. You’ll be hands-on working with business partners as we rescope the work and begin our next iteration of outsourcing operational functions to our external partners. 

Overview

In this role, you will design, develop, modify, adapt and implement short- and long-term solutions to information technology needs through new and existing applications, systems, databases and applications infrastructure. You will review and interpret system requirements and business processes. In addition, you will:

• Guide the coding, testing, debugging and implementation of software solutions
• Provide leadership and direction, typically through subordinate managers
• Have primary accountability for the performance of multiple departments
• Develop and execute strategy for your business area based on general senior management direction and approved operating plans
• Ensure that decisions are guided by long-term Business Unit strategy, priorities and objectives

Your job responsibilities

• Design and lead an operating model for multiple teams to delivers world-class software with maximum efficiency
• Coach engineering managers on how to run projects, assess designs, and ensure quality code is produced at all times
• Build broad project visibility to enable collaboration by management and staff
• Ensure effective recruiting and people management for the organization
• Contribute to the formulation of Global Technology Services technical strategy
• Be held accountable for realizing broader GTS technical strategy
• Display an understanding of theoretical concepts
• Make sound decisions with limited facts or resources
• Draw logical and objective conclusions from the data and validate them as the prime cause and contributing causes
• Provide timely feedback and mentoring to individuals and teams, using data to reinforce learning
• Hold team and self-accountable for achieving goals and objectives
• Produce results by leading through other leaders and managers
• Be capable of leading the firms most ambitious and complex software development projects

Business knowledge

• Demonstrates extraordinary awareness of the complexities of the industry and business units
• Able to reason about the potential future direction of the business and the impact technology may have on it

Requirements

• Typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience
• Demonstrates deep understanding of several styles of development (OO, Functional, etc.)
• Deep experience in automated testing and techniques
• Expertise in various SDLC methodologies (e.g. Agile)
• Experience in objective setting and career growth for teams
• Holds high standards for staff and managers
• Able to coach and lead individuals at all levels of an organization
• Able to communicate to highly technical content to a variety of audiences
• Capable of defining delivery SDLC methodology (e.g. Scrum) across broader teams and programs

Work Flexibility

This role is eligible for remote work up to three days a week.
