Sterile Processing Technician (SPD) is responsible for: inspects, cleans, sterilizes, and assembles surgical/patient care instruments and /or equipment, according to the prescribed procedures and techniques documented in the Policy and Procedure Manual.
1. Operates washer and sterilizers, according to manufacture’s specifications.
2. Maintain accurate records of the sterilization processes and all of the parameters associated with the sterilization cycles.
3. Regulates and adjust sterilization parameters as to cycle pressure, cycle time, temperature and cycle selection.
4. Performs biological and chemical monitoring tests on both sterrad sterilizers and steam autoclave, as often as needed. Also interprets and maintains accurate records of the results.
5. Inspects sterilized packages and trays before transporting to the operating room for compromised integrity of the packaging /damages in accordance with the SPD Event-Related Shelf Life Policy.
6. Assembles and performs quality control checks for all instrument trays ..
7. Is knowledgeable of medical and surgical supplies used throughout the ACF and is able to identify them.
8. Knowledge of inventory control Demand Flow par level refill systems.
9. Is knowledgeable and adheres to AAMI, AORN, O.S.H.A. and TJC regulations relating directly to Central Service.
10. Is knowledgeable and adheres to Universal Blood Precautions.
