Tax Developer 1 – Tax Development – Federal

At Jackson Hewitt Tax Services, our Tax Developer 1 executes professionally, solves routine problems independently, and focuses their tax knowledge and tax application development work commonly within a typical area.

What you’ll do here:

• Develops cost-effective information technology solutions by creating new and modifying existing moderately complex tax software applications.
• Researches and analyzes moderately complex tax requirements, existing business processes and information systems.
• Formulates efficient design approach to ensure good user experience and ease of maintenance.
• Reviews design and development approach with other team members.
• Codes, tests, debugs, documents, and implements moderately complex tax software applications.
• Manages assignments and meets aggressive deadlines.

What skills you’ll bring for success:

• Good understanding of application development platform and tools used by Jackson Hewitt to develop tax software solutions.
• Understands business functions and how tax technical solutions support them.Provides recommendations for improvements to assigned components.
• Utilizes online tax research software to understand moderately complex tax requirements and monitor legislation.
• Some individual decision making/judgment required.
• Requires moderate supervision.
• Solves assigned moderately complex problems and trouble shoots issues with components within a reoccurring domain.
• Plans own work efficiently.
• Provides input into tax technical topics and design.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent in tax preparation experience.
• Enrolled Agent or CPA license desirable.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and fundamentals of research, design, coding, testing, and debugging. Plus strong tax knowledge in specialized area.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills required.
• Strong oral and written communication skills required to work effectively within a team environment.
• At least 3 years of tax application development experience or tax preparation experience.
